تدور احداث قصه فيلم الدراما و الخيال العلمى Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977 " لقاءات قريبة من النوع الثالث " حول يصاب روي نيري بهوس الكائنات الفضائية والأطباق الطائرة، بعدما ظن أنه رأى طبقًا طائرًا ينبعث منه ضوء شديد. لا يصدقه أحد، فيبدأ في التواصل مع من يؤيدون صحة هذه الأمور؛ مثل السيدة جيليان؛ التي تؤكد أن ابنها اختفى في حادثة مماثلة، والباحث الفرنسي كلود؛ الذي يعتقد أن بإمكان البشر التواصل مع المخلوقات الفضائية عن طريق لغة موسيقية معينة. توضع نظرية كلود محل الاختبار بمشاركة باحثين في الحكومة، وبعض المتحمسين لهذه القضية، وتتوالى الأحداث في رحلة مثيرة للبحث عن الحقيقة.
